Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Boeing 787 DreamlinerGoodrich will supply the electric braking system for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The 787 system represents the first large commercial aircraft application of Electromechanical Braking technology. The Goodrich system is the result of technology developed and validated during the last decade by a cross-divisional Goodrich team. Our Aircraft Wheels and Brakes team provides system integration and brake performance expertise along with the wheel and brake hardware manufactured in Troy, Ohio. Our Fuel and Utility Systems business, in Vergennes, Vermont provides aircraft system expertise as well as software; while our Actuation Systems business in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey supplies the digitally-controlled electromechanical actuation and electronics capability. The team has achieved excellent results with this technology in both military applications and in previous flight test programs.

The Goodrich designed electromechanical braking system is comprised of the aircraft wheels, electro-mechanically actuated carbon brakes, and electronic enclosure that includes the brake actuation hardware and software. The system provides precision control of the aircraft brakes while at the same time achieving the strict weight and performance requirements set for the new 787 Dreamliner. In this innovative system, braking forces are generated with electrical actuators as opposed to hydraulic pistons used in current technology. The benefits of this design include high reliability electronics, reduced weight, and the maintenance advantage of direct communication with the vehicle management systems.
