Consolidating engine related sensor interfaces in a data concentrator,
located on the main engine strut, reduces wire weight from
the engine to the fuselage.
The Main Engine Data Concentrator will provide up to 100 electrical interfaces
to engine sensors, which include: temperature, pressure, fire, speed,
proximity, resistance and discrete interfaces.
In addition to providing sensor interfaces, the Main Engine Data Concentrator performs two functions,
Engine Anti-Ice and Engine Fire Detection. Engine Anti-Ice is
a closed loop control system that utilizes pressure sensor inputs
to control a torque motor that varies the amount of bleed air
sent to the engine cowling. Engine Fire Detection uses resistive
loops mounted on the engines while the Main Engine Data Concentrator determines if there
is an engine fire based on their dynamic characteristics.
Each Main Engine Data Concentrator will be designed with a dual architecture providing
complete separation to meet high integrity requirements. This
includes separate circuit cards, separate connectors, separate
power supplies and separate communication busses. A single, dual
architecture Main Engine Data Concentrator will be mounted on each main engine.
