Fuel Tank Units

Goodrich Fuel & Utility Systems designs and manufactures tank units in a variety of configurations depending upon the system application. Examples are:

Capacitance

  • AC linear sensor
  • DC linear sensor
  • AC profiled inner tube
  • DC profiled inner tube
  • DC full height compensated

Ultrasonic

  • Stillwell
  • Non Stillwell

Fuel Tank ProbesGoodrich capacitive tank units are either AC or DC and consists of two concentric aluminum tubes with a constant gap maintained by Teflon spacers mounted between the tubes. Both the inner and outer tubes are anodized and polyurethane coated. Depending upon the application, the tubes will either be straight or profiled. Length and mounting location are dictated by tank volume and geometry determined through extensive tank studies. The capacitance measured at the tank units is proportional to the fuel immersion height.

The tank units are designed for “free flooding” of fuel and are constructed to shed water and other contaminants that could influence measurement accuracy. The terminal block is “snap on” mounted to the outer tube and electrically connected to the inner and outer tubes via short connecting wires. Insulating end caps are provided to preclude possible electrical contact with tank structure and plumbing.  The units are internally mounted in the tank using plastic brackets. One bracket is fixed to the tank unit and controls the vertical and rotational orientation of the probe position in the tank. The second bracket is free to slide and rotate allowing the installation to be fine tuned. Depending upon the length of the probe, a third bracket maybe required to meet vibration and fuel slosh loading requirements.

Tank Units are available in a variety of mounting types including:

  • Internal mount
  • Flange mount
