Proximity Sensor System Experience

Bombardier Challenger 300

Goodrich Fuel and Utility Systems supplies the Proximity Sensing Electronics Unit (PSEU), 34 proximity sensors and mounting tray for the Bombardier Challenger 300.

In common with other Proximity Sensing Systems this was designed as a Flight Critical System, with the associated software designed, coded, and qualified to DO-178B Level A.

The Challenger 300 Proximity System provides the following functions:

  • Redundant Weight On Wheels
  • Landing Gear Control
  • Landing Gear Position Indication
  • Fuselage Door Position (Closed / Locked)
  • Spoiler Position Indication
  • Hydraulic Direct Current Motor Pump (DCMP) Control
  • Engine Drive Pump (EDP) Over-temperature Control

Goodrich was responsible for participating in an on-site Joint Definition Phase in Montreal to develop the system functionality and interfaces, working with Bombardier and the other aircraft partners. We developed all control and indication algorithms and logic for the proximity functions.

The Challenger 300 proximity system is based on a two card, redundant architecture using the Universal Sensor Interface housed in an ARINC 600 2MCU enclosure. For this airframe, all maintenance functions were performed utilizing a Central Maintenance Computer supplied by Rockwell Collins. We developed all maintenance and rigging pages for the display system.
