F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

The JSF Weapons Bay Door Drive System (WBDDS) Electrical Control Unit (ECU) will provide the ability to open and close the JSF Weapons Bay doors at a commanded speed. 

The JSF WBDDS provides Control and Indication capabilities in a dual embedded Digital Signal Processor (DSP) environment as follows:

The Control DSP provides closed loop control by means of monitoring/controlling (per door):

• 1 millisecond control loop
• Ratio-metric Variable Differential Transformers (RVDT) for reading door and swash plate positions
• Electro-hydraulic Servo Valve (EHSV) for controlling swash plates (which regulate hydraulic flow)
• Speed sensors for determining door speed
• Solenoid Valve for isolating Power Distribution Unit (PDU) from hydraulic flow
• Discrete inputs/outputs for determining system configuration and controlling brakes, up locks, and isolation valve

Indication requires monitoring and controlling the following capabilities in the Indication and Communication (IAC) Computer Software Configuration Item (CSCI):

• Passive Proximity Sensors for sensing door closed/locked status
• Ultra Fast 10 millisecond update rate for proximity sensor Data
• Unit Supports 4 Proximity sensors
• IEEE 1394 bus for communication with the Vehicle Mission Computer (VMC)
• Memory Mapped Interface to the Control Processor for sending commands and proximity sensor data and for receiving position & status information
